Top 3 Honeymoon Planning Tips from a Private Travel Agent

with River House Private Travel

Choosing a honeymoon destination is something most of you will only do once, and there can be a lot of pressure to make it special and unforgettable. We chatted to Donna from River House Private Travel, a boutique travel agency to give us her honeymoon planning tips, to help you prioritise and plan your way to post-wedding perfection!

Honey-Must-Haves

As a couple you usually sit down and choose a honeymoon destination together, but Donna’s first tip is to individually make lists of what your unique priorities are. In order to make your honeymoon special you both need to get exactly what you want from the experience, so you should separately have a top 2-3 things that you will call your ‘must-haves’.

Hopefully your must-haves will be similar, but we all know opposites attract! If you’re on different pages from what you want, you know you need to find a unique honeymoon destination that covers both of your priority lists. One of you wants total poolside relaxation whilst the other fancies a sunrise hike up a mountain? Look for accommodation offering great pool space, located near a suitable hiking point!

Our founder Ashleigh & her husband Ant have very different ideas of what holidaying means - so they chose to island hop around Hawaii, with plenty of relaxing beach time for Ashleigh & activities for Ant!

Pinterest Honeymoon Planning

Pinterest and social media are great places to go for honeymoon planning inspiration, and whilst they can really help to visualise your ideas it’s easy to get totally wrapped up in the aesthetic of a destination. Donna’s advice is to remember that, just like everything else in your wedding planning journey, travel has many different price points.

Try not to get your heart set on a honeymoon destination until you know whether it fits your budget! Her advice is to move around if you need to stick within a budget, stay somewhere with a great location that’s a little more. budget friendly then spend a couple of nights at a luxury hotel.

Once In A Lifetime

Your honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s a holiday like no other, and it’s your chance to completely unwind and bask in that wedding-afterglow. One of Donna’s honeymoon planning tips is to look outside of just the hotel & resort and research experiences you can do together, to start your married life in style and create some amazing memories right from the get-go.
